Why do they use non-Italian actors and actresses to play Italian roles in movies?
I just got finished watching Mission Impossible 3, and Damien’s translator was portrayed as an Italian woman in the movie. This actress is named Bahar Soomekh in real life, and she’s a Persian/Iranian Jew. In some other movie, they used Vin Diesel for an Italian role, and he’s part black. In other cases, they use Hispanic actors and actresses to play Italian roles that don’t even look Italian. Why is that? The real kicker is that they cast British and German actors for movies about the ancient Romans, and the Romans were even darker complected than modern day Italians are. Can someone help me make heads or tales out of all of this?
Here is the thing anytime they show an Italian on screen they need to “prove” he is Italian in the first few Minutes.
He is either a heavy set guy that talks like Yo Richie ,or he is eating or in a restaurant.
As an Italian I feel all of the rest of the world is smart enough to “Find the Italian” without a Gun,Pizza or a gold chain in there hand.
The only Italians really working look like the Tony Soprano
and his boys.
Not all of us look like Rocky or 1970′s John Travolta,
Tony Soprano Or the one that makes me upset the little old woman in a black dress.
Let’s just say he is Vinnie No need to drive the point home .
