beginner triathlete? Some swim test Training Tips
If you are determined to prove his first Ironman, but a little nervous about swimming, which can make you feel better.
Historically, the first time Ironman starters have more experience in running and cycling O instead of swim. You are not alone!
Believe me, I survived my first swim test and you too. When looking at the crazy people in 1982 and swam 2.4 miles in the ocean, my first thought was — "I think my rules." Considering I could not swim stroke at the time and had a healthy fear of water, my chances looked pretty thin.
Something happened though. The more I looked the race, more than I wanted to do. At the time the television version of Ironman of Hawaii 1982, it has done, I decided to learn to swim. I wanted to cross the finish line.
Two years later, I was in Kona, the gun was, and I was in my way. This was my first open water bath! And he was swimming! Stoke had a snafu. Now I know. Not at this time. I swam in Kona – the Ironman!
Me beaten, kicked and hit, but luckily for me there was almost 900 entries that day. It would be much worse in the coming years as the field increased from 2000 more!
Back to Kona! It was surreal. Swimming in the boat with orange candles, which marked the turning point. The observation of tropical fish I swam. The divers sat on the bottom of the sea, waving as we swam through. Walk about half underwater photographer take my picture as I turned the boat and returned. Fever felt incredible lift and now I'm pushing toward the shore.
I can not even put into words what I felt when I got up after one hour and 38 minutes and realized that it had completed the Hawaii Ironman swim. It was a turning point in my life. I knew right away that, before the day was After all, I am an Ironman.
Never forget this transition tent. It was electric! It was as if everyone talked at once. You can "feel" the sensation of accomplishment and relief in the air. In retrospect, I really think that many people in the race this year have been dreading swimming test.
He told this story for a reason. It is safe to assume not. Is it that inspires you. It makes you realize if you want it bad enough, it's good to take. POWER! Wisdom! RESISTANCE! You have within you. Now – they opened the door. Get in the water!
Do not make the same mistakes I did. I did very well all wrong when I tried to make fast swimmer.
I read the books. I swam thousands of length, capacity of all my bad habits. I swam with miles and miles buoys, because my feet were sinking. I've heard it my way through the water. It took 10 years to have my original 15-minute swim Hawaii. The gun went and I move my arms as fast as I could for 2.4 miles.
Years passed, but soon discovered I had to stop to swim faster. I learned to swim and relax by the natural buoyancy that we have all been in response. It was not really the speed I'm at the other end of the pool, which was: how? Finally he learned that 16 favorites relaxed every 25 meters is better than a ton 25 "waving his arms as fast as you can throw."
Learn to media outlet or upper body (chest) in the water while swimming. Their lungs act as a natural buoy and when you master the technique you will feel your legs back to the surface behind you. Its simple physics and you will see a difference training in one day. "Press your buoy" every time you swim and will soon become natural. So count your strokes and reduce the number of strokes must happen at the end of the pool. When you get the buoyancy, once soft and slippery and understanding gradually begins to increase speed. Soon the pool will improve by leaps and bounds.
I've worked all season training and found myself in the swim start. I stayed calm and relaxed. I used my new loooooong smoooooth, stroke. He kept the balance of Nice on the water surface, and was very relaxed when I finished the swim. I thought, "Well, I do not feel like I worked very hard and swam very fast, but if my time is slower than what is right, at least I feel great!
My time was a personal record of a bath A little over five minutes! In a season of training, learning to relax and swim with proper technique and use muuuucho, accidents smooooth stroke and balance the body, either, I made a big improvement in my swimming pool.
Remember: This is not the amount of miles to swim training — of swimming. Is it the key.
Some other things ..
If you can not swim in open water during their training, do not worry. Save it for days of the race as I did. The technique of swimming right to work anywhere where. However, should do a bit of swimming in their game, if only in the pool. Just getting used to how you feel.
I recommend to stop all aid to swimming. swim boards and buoys should not really be part of their training for the Ironman Swim. No need to learn to be a great kicker. Swimming with good technique and kicking, not a big problem and you can save your legs later in the day. If you find a balance in the water, the legs will not sink and will not be necessary with the floats.
Do not think that has to join a swimming club to improve your pool. If the rock club, by all means, go ahead. I always thought it was better on my own.
Remember this: The Ironman is an individual test. Much of this is done in solitude as you fight your own demons. Even if you have business in the marathon – I can not take. This is that you decide how your day is done.
