How long before Brian Vickers gets Toyotas FIRST WIN!?
Unlike most of you Toyota haters that will comment on this subject… I am a huge fan of Vickers, and the whole Red Bull Racing Team. Brian is an excellent driver.. Probably one of the best unproven drivers in the sport. Sure, He’s proved he can win! But his problem has been consistency. I watched Vickers run in the USAR Pro Cup series back in 2000! That’s when he caught my eye. He had 2 wins I think, and won the ROTY award in that division. In 2001, He won close to handful of races, and finished 2nd in the points. After driving some races in the BUSCH series in a few cars that his Dad owned, He finally got hired to replace Ricky Hendrick in that #5 Hendrick Busch car.. The rest is history… He had 3 wins and the championship his first year out w/ the Hendrick gang. This kid is due again for another win.. And after an impressive run in the Coke 600, He’s qualified in the top 10 @ Pocono. C’mon, Anyone else think this kid might get a win this year for Toyota? He is their only hope!!
I’ll tell you what, Vickers is a very good driver and has done well at Pocono. I would look for either him or Jeremy Mayfield to post the first Toyota victory, I’m just not sure it will happen this year. Right now Vickers is closest to a win but Mayfield just got Waltrip’s old crew chief and they could threaten for some top 10s and maybe better if they can start getting into more races. They are so far behind and NASCAR is not on an even playing field as far as practice time and testing. If they change the way some of these things are handled the Toyota’s will be a LOT better next year especially with just having to worry about the COT.
