William J. "Bill" Bowerman (February 19, 1911 December 24, 1999) was an American track and field coach and co-founder of Nike, Inc. has successfully coached many sports, training 31 Olympic athletes 51 All-American, 12 American record holders, 24 NCAA champions and 16 Milers less than four minutes. During his 24 years as coach at the University of Oregon, Athletic team had a winning season every season, but reached four NCAA titles and finished in the top 10 in the country 16 times.

Biography
Bill Bowerman was February 19, 1911 in Portland, Oregon. His father was former Oregon Governor Jay Bowerman, and his mother had grown up in fossils. The family returned to Africa after the parents divorced in 1913. The bill had an older brother and sister Dan and Mary Elizabeth EPF. The project also had a twin brother, Thomas, who died in an elevator accident when he was less than 1 year.
Bill attended schools in Medford and Seattle before returning to Medford High School. Bill has played in the school band and football team state champion his junior and senior years. Bill first met Barbara Young, the woman he married, high school in Medford.
In 1929, Bill went to college in Oregon to play football and study journalism.
After studies, he taught biology and coached football at Franklin High School in Portland in 1934. But in 1935 Bill returned to Medford to teach and coach football.
Bill and Barbara married June 22, 1936. Their first son, Jon, was born June 22, 1938. William J. Bowerman, Jr. (Ay) was born November 17, 1942.
Military career
Bowerman joined in the United States Army in the days after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was assigned to Fort Lawton in Washington and served a year before being assigned to the 86th Mountain Infantry Regiment at Camp Hale in Leadville, Colorado. With the 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment, the regiment became the 10th Mountain Division.
His duty led organization of troops and supplies to maintain the mules used to transport supplies to the mountains. On December 23 1944, the division arrived in Naples, Italy and soon moved north into the mountains of northern Italy. During his period of service, was promoted Bowerman a battalion commander, First of all, the 86th Regiment to the rank of Major. Bowerman negotiated a downward position of the German forces near the Brenner Pass in the days prior to the capitulation of the German army in Italy. For his services, Bowerman received four bronze stars, good conduct medal and a silver star. He was honorably discharged in October 1945.
Coaching career
After the war he returned to his post at the University of Medford. son of Bill and Barbara third, Thomas born May 20, 1946. The family moved to Eugene, Oregon for the bill to become a football coach's. His first day of employment with the University of East Africa was July 1, 1944.
University of Oregon
The bill has made most of its great brand as an athletic trainer. His teams also boasted 33 Olympians, 38 conference champions and 64 all Americans. At level two, Ducks 114-20 record and is undefeated in 10 seasons. Bill has also resulted in setting the world record four miles (6.4 km) team relay in 1962. The team consisted of Archie San Romani, Burleson Dyrol, Vic Reeve and Keith Forman with a time of 16:08.9. Among the athletes coach Bill Bowerman are: the legendary Steve Prefontaine, Kenny Moore, Bill Dellinger, Mac Wilkins, Jack Hutchins Dyrol Burleson, Harry Jerome, Siegmar Ohlemann, The Tipton, Gerry Moro, Wade Bell, Dave Edstrom, Roscoe Divine, Jim Grelle, Bruce Mortenson and Phil Knight.
